- And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
- The righteous person faces many troubles,
but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. - The Lord is good,
a strong refuge when trouble comes.
He is close to those who trust in him. - Haughtiness goes before destruction;
humility precedes honor. - And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
- Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.
- Fear of the Lord teaches wisdom;
humility precedes honor. - Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
- Those who control their tongue will have a long life;
opening your mouth can ruin everything. - For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.
- Let all that I am wait quietly before God,
for my hope is in him. - But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
- For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.
- But blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
They are like trees planted along a riverbank,
with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat
or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green,
and they never stop producing fruit. - Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.
- May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.
- And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
- Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life. - For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.
- Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
- Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven.
And everyone will see him—
even those who pierced him.
And all the nations of the world
will mourn for him.
Yes! Amen! - So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
- For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.
- Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction. He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God.
- There are “friends” who destroy each other,
but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.
