- O Lord, I have come to you for protection;
don’t let me be disgraced.
Save me, for you do what is right. - I will be filled with joy because of you.
I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. - Don’t trap yourself by making a rash promise to God
and only later counting the cost. - He proclaimed his covenant—the Ten Commandments—which he commanded you to keep, and which he wrote on two stone tablets.
- Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.
- I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!
- Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life.
- But in your great mercy, you did not destroy them completely or abandon them forever. What a gracious and merciful God you are!
- But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
- But I trust in your unfailing love.
I will rejoice because you have rescued me.
I will sing to the Lord
because he is good to me. - God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?
- For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
- And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.
- How great is the goodness
you have stored up for those who fear you.
You lavish it on those who come to you for protection,
blessing them before the watching world. - I praise God for what he has promised.
I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?
What can mere mortals do to me? - A single day in your courts
is better than a thousand anywhere else!
I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God
than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. - He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
- And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.
- Deceit fills hearts that are plotting evil;
joy fills hearts that are planning peace! - For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.
- Pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven. - And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much!
- Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor;
only fools insist on quarreling. - You are altogether beautiful, my darling,
beautiful in every way. - Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.
