- Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
- For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
- Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

upright and just is he. - So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well. - There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.
- If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
- In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
- But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
- And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
- For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God? - For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God? - He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
- But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
- Keep me safe, my God,
for in you I take refuge. - “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
- Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.
- If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
- But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
- If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
- Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
- You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

I will help you. - For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me? - And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
- The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it. - For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him.
