- Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
- For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.
- Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
- The Lord is on my side;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me? - In God (I will praise His word),
In God I have put my trust;
I will not fear.
What can flesh do to me? - For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established— that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
- And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying:
“Blessing and honor and glory and power
Be to Him who sits on the throne,
And to the Lamb, forever and ever!” - Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth.
- For thus says the High and Lofty One
Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
With him who has a contrite and humble spirit,
To revive the spirit of the humble,
And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” - Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name! - The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverse mouth I hate. - The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
- For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. - I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
- But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.
- I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.
- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- If I say, “My foot slips,”
Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up. - And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
- My soul, wait silently for God alone,
For my expectation is from Him. - Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.
- Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning,
For in You do I trust;
Cause me to know the way in which I should walk,
For I lift up my soul to You. - I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
- I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
- But He knows the way that I take;
When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.
My foot has held fast to His steps;
I have kept His way and not turned aside.
