- But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.
- On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and cried out,
“If anyone is thirsty,
let him come to me and drink.” - He cried out, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” And with these words he breathed his last.
- Then he sat down, summoned the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he must become the last of all and the servant of all.”
- Who has performed these deeds and accomplished this?
Who has summoned the nations from the beginning?
I, the Lord, am the first,
and I will be there with the last. - But I know that my Redeemer lives,
and that at the end he will stand upon the dust. - For they said to you, “In the final age there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly passions.” It is these people who create divisions, who follow their natural instincts and do not possess the Spirit.
- For his anger lasts for only a moment,
while his goodwill endures for a lifetime.
Weeping may last throughout the night,
but at daybreak there is rejoicing. - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
those who are guided by it will grow in understanding.
His praise will last forever. - Our temporary light afflictions are preparing for us an incomparable weight of eternal glory.
- Everyone who seeks a prize submits himself to rigorous self-discipline in every respect. They do so to win a perishable crown, while we seek an imperishable one.
- The labors of the wicked man produce little profit,
but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward. - You did not choose me.
Rather, I chose you.
And I appointed you
to go out and bear fruit,
fruit that will remain,
so that the Father may give you
whatever you ask him in my name. - I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have life. - Thus there are three things that endure: faith, hope, and love,
and the greatest of these is love. - Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting,
but the woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. - The Lord God then formed a woman out of the rib that he had taken from the man. He brought her before the man.
The man said,
“This one is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh.
She shall be called woman
because she was taken from man.”
This is why a man leaves his father and his mother and joins with a wife, and the two become one flesh. - The time of fulfillment has arrived, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.
- You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.
- Until a spirit from on high
is poured out upon us,
and the wilderness becomes an orchard
and the fruitful field becomes a forest. - In it the righteousness of God is revealed, beginning in faith and established in faith. As it is written: “The one who is righteous will live through faith.”
- And now, brethren, farewell. Mend your ways. Encourage one another. Be of one mind and live in peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
- For our eyes are fixed not on what is seen but rather on that which cannot be seen. What is visible is transitory; what is invisible is eternal.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress, so that I stand unshaken. Finally, all of you should be united in spirit, sympathetic, filled with love for one another, compassionate, and humble.Next verse! With image
