- And the world with all its enticements
is passing away,
but whoever does the will of God
abides forever. - Now we know that if the earthly tent in which we live is destroyed, we have a dwelling prepared for us by God, a dwelling in the heavens, not made with human hands, that will be eternal.
- I understand that man’s greatest happiness is to be glad and do well throughout his life. And when we eat and drink and find satisfaction in all our labors, this is a gift of God.
- You shall obey his statutes and the commandments that I give you today, so that all may go well with you and your children after you, and that you may live long in the land that the Lord, your God, has given you for all time.
- It is better to spend one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in God’s house
than dwell inside the tents of the wicked. - This is how we can be certain
that we abide in him
and that he abides in us:
he has given us a share in his Spirit. - Although we are human beings, we do not engage in battle according to human standards.
- In peace I lie down and sleep,
for only with your help, O Lord,
can I rest secure. - However, if we live in the light
as he himself is in the light,
then we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus his Son
purifies us from all sin. - The birth of Jesus Christ occurred in this way. When his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came to live together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
- Honor your father and your mother so that your days may be lengthened in the land that the Lord your God, will give you.
- However, if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you are upright in your dealings with your neighbor; if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow; if you do not shed innocent blood in this place; and if you do not follow other gods and thereby cause your own destruction, then I will allow you to live in this place, in the land that I gave as a permanent gift to your fathers long ago.
- And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a sacrificial offering whose fragrance is pleasing to God.
- For sin is no longer to have any power over you, since you are not under the Law but under grace.
- We have come to know
and to believe in
the love that God has for us.
God is love,
and whoever abides in love
abides in God,
and God in him. - Hence, I advise you to be guided by the Spirit, so that you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
- I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
I have set your judgments before me. - Produce good fruit as proof of your repentance.
- You who abide in the shelter of the Most High,
who rest in the shadow of the Almighty,
say to the Lord, “You are my refuge and my fortress,
my God in whom I place my trust.” - There is only one thing I ask of the Lord,
just one thing I seek:
to dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
so that I may enjoy the beauty of the Lord
and gaze on his temple. - God abides in anyone who acknowledges
that Jesus is the Son of God,
and that person abides in God. - The one who sows in his flesh will reap a harvest of corruption, but the one who sows in the Spirit will reap from the Spirit the reward of eternal life.
- For six days work can be done, but the seventh is a Sabbath of rest, a holy assembly. You will do no work on it; it is a Sabbath of the Lord in all of your dwellings.
- Rather, seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
- Seek peace with everyone, as well as the holiness without which no one will ever see the Lord.
Teach me your ways, O Lord,
so that I may walk in your truth;
let me worship your name
with an undivided heart.My life is in your hands;
deliver me from the power of my enemies,
from the clutches of those who pursue me.
