Man (3/4)

  • He answered, “Haven’t you read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh’? So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don’t let man tear apart.”
  • Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath day.
  • It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife,
but every fool will be quarreling.
  • He humbled you, allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know, that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of Yahweh’s mouth.
  • Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins; and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
  • Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and will hand him over to the Gentiles to mock, to scourge, and to crucify; and the third day he will be raised up.
  • One man esteems one day as more important. Another esteems every day alike. Let each man be fully assured in his own mind.
  • It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends.
He will maintain his cause in judgment.
  • A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge;
but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
  • So that with good courage we say,
“The Lord is my helper. I will not fear.
What can man do to me?”
  • Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects.
Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
  • God created man in his own image. In God’s image he created him; male and female he created them.
  • He was going on the Sabbath day through the grain fields; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Behold, why do they do that which is not lawful on the Sabbath day?”
He said to them, “Did you never read what David did when he had need and was hungry—he, and those who were with him? How he entered into God’s house at the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the show bread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him?”
He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
  • A man of many companions may be ruined,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
  • With the merciful you will show yourself merciful.
With the perfect man, you will show yourself perfect.
  • Like a city that is broken down and without walls
is a man whose spirit is without restraint.
  • But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for I don’t see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.”
  • Yahweh God made garments of animal skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them.
  • Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings, and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator.
  • It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication,
then later to consider his vows.
  • For no prophecy ever came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit.
  • He said, “That which proceeds out of the man, that defiles the man. For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts, covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile the man.”
  • Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stand on the path of sinners,
nor sit in the seat of scoffers.
  • So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger.
  • The ransom of a man’s life is his riches,
but the poor hear no threats.

Also to you, Lord, belongs loving kindness,
for you reward every man according to his work.
