But, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ. | Rather, professing truth and love, we will in all things grow into him who is the head, Christ. |
Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him. | But even so the Lord is waiting to be gracious to you, and he will rise up to grant you his compassion. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. | Put on the armor of God so that you will be able to stand firm against the deceit of the devil. |
Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. | Until now, in my name, you have not asked for anything. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. |
Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ. | May the Lord guide your hearts to the love of God and the steadfastness of Christ. |
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever. | And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever. |
Seek good and not evil, That you may live; So the Lord God of hosts will be with you, As you have spoken. | Seek good and not evil, so that you may live. Then the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you as you claim he is. |
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. | And eternal life is this: to know you, the only true God, and the one you have sent, Jesus Christ. |
And you shall have the tassel, that you may look upon it and remember all the commandments of the Lord and do them, and that you may not follow the harlotry to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined. | When you look at the tassels, you will remember the commandments of the Lord and keep them. Thus you will not prostitute yourselves by following after the lusts in your own heart or your own eyes. |
Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all. | May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. |
Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward. | Be on your guard that you do not lose what we have worked to accomplish so that you will receive your reward in full. |
For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise. | You need to be steadfast if you want to do the will of God and receive what he has promised. |
But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. | I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to render an account for every careless word they utter. |
And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we do to you. | May the Lord cause your love to increase and overflow for one another and for everyone else, just as our love does for you. |
But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God. | However, whoever lives by the truth comes to the light so that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been done in God. |
Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. | And where a single man can be overcome, two together will be able to resist. A cord with three strands is not easily broken. |
Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus. | May the God of perseverance and encouragement grant that you may live in harmony with one another, following in the example of Jesus Christ. |
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. | Remain sober and alert, for your enemy the devil is on the prowl like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. |
Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. | Honor your father and your mother so that your days may be lengthened in the land that the Lord your God, will give you. |
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. | For his anger lasts for only a moment, while his goodwill endures for a lifetime. Weeping may last throughout the night, but at daybreak there is rejoicing. |
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. | Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace when we are in need of help. |
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. | Therefore, put on the armor of God, so that you will be able to hold fast on the evil day and to hold your ground with all your strength. |
And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them. | I have made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I in them. |
