- I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. Now waiting for me is the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day—and not only to me, but to all those who have eagerly longed for his appearance.
- The lips of the righteous utter words of kindness,
but the mouth of the wicked knows only how to pervert. - Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocked. A person will reap only what he sows.
- An ignorant man causes strife by his insolence,
but wisdom is found with those who take advice. - For we will become partners with Christ only if we maintain firmly until the end the confidence we originally had.
- It is rash to pledge a sacred gift,
or to make a vow and then have second thoughts. - As for me, I do not regard my life as of any value, only that I finish the race and complete the mission that I received from the Lord Jesus—to bear witness to the gospel of God’s grace.
- For his anger lasts for only a moment,
while his goodwill endures for a lifetime.
Weeping may last throughout the night,
but at daybreak there is rejoicing. - In God alone be at rest, O my soul;
it is from him that my hope comes. - Now in regard to the eating of meat sacrificed to idols, we know that idols are nothing in the world and that there is only one God.
- Only goodness and kindness will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever and ever. - For no one can be regarded as justified in the sight of God by keeping the Law. The Law brings only the consciousness of sin.
- There is only one thing I ask of the Lord,
just one thing I seek:
to dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
so that I may enjoy the beauty of the Lord
and gaze on his temple. - Therefore, do not allow anyone to pass judgment on you in regard to what you eat or drink, or about the observance of Festivals, New Moons, or Sabbaths. These are only a shadow of what is to come. The reality is Christ.
- Whatever moves and has life will be used for your food. I give you all these things, just as I have already given you every green plant. Only do not eat flesh along with its life, that is, with its blood.
- Since in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor lack of circumcision is worth anything. All that matters is faith expressing itself through love.
- The Lord has told you, O man, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
Only this: to do what is right, to show mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God. - While physical training has some value, the benefits of godliness are unlimited, since it holds out promise not only for this life but also for the life to come.
- Dear children,
let us love not in word or speech
but in deed and truth. - Do not envy a violent man
or choose to emulate any of his ways.
For the perverse man is an abomination to the Lord
whose friendship is bestowed only upon the upright.
