Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit.
Giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people!A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor.A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
People may be right in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their heart.Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.
The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety.The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one’s heart.The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
