Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! | Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. |
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? | What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? |
|
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. | But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. |
So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” | So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” |
Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit. | And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. |
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” | I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” |
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone. | Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. |
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” | He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” |
Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is not wise to ask such questions. | Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?” For it is not from wisdom that you ask this. |
Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame. | Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame. |
Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: None of my words will be delayed any longer; whatever I say will be fulfilled, declares the Sovereign Lord.’ | Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord God: None of my words will be delayed any longer, but the word that I speak will be performed, declares the Lord God. |
In that day you will say: “Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted.” | And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted.” |
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? | What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? |
Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”. | Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”. |
I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” | “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” |
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. | Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. |
All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. | Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil. |
So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. | And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. |
Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to him: “Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips.” | Take with you words and return to the Lord; say to him, “Take away all iniquity; accept what is good, and we will pay with bulls the vows of our lips.” |
Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’? | Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’? |
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” | He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” |
Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. | Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you have said. |
But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. | But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. |
Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. | Hear, my son, and accept my words, that the years of your life may be many. |
If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. | If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. |
