Shalt (4/4)

  • When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be charged with any related duty. He shall be free at home one year, to be happy with the wife whom he has married.
  • My soul thirsts for God,
    for the living God.
    When shall I come and behold
    the face of God?
  • For the mountains may depart
    and the hills be removed,
    but my steadfast love shall not depart from you,
    and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,
    says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
  • Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
    whose trust is the Lord.
    They shall be like a tree planted by water,
    sending out its roots by the stream.
    It shall not fear when heat comes,
    and its leaves shall stay green;
    in the year of drought it is not anxious,
    and it does not cease to bear fruit.
  • All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
    “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
    and they shall name him Emmanuel,”
    which means, “God is with us.”
  • When you realize your guilt in any of these, you shall confess the sin that you have committed.
  • I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
  • If you follow my statutes and keep my commandments and observe them faithfully, I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
  • Though an army encamp against me,
    my heart shall not fear;
    though war rise up against me,
    yet I will be confident.
  • You shall be holy to me; for I the Lord am holy, and I have separated you from the other peoples to be mine.
  • You shall not abuse any widow or orphan. If you do abuse them, when they cry out to me, I will surely heed their cry; my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children orphans.
  • Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me!”
  • The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures;
    he leads me beside still waters.
  • You shall worship the Lord your God, and I will bless your bread and your water; and I will take sickness away from among you.
  • And let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer's heart shall flow rivers of living water.’
  • Why are you cast down, O my soul,
    and why are you disquieted within me?
    Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
    my help and my God.
  • Instead, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
  • But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.
  • So I will display my greatness and my holiness and make myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.
  • I will make them and the region around my hill a blessing; and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing.
  • But I trusted in your steadfast love;
    my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
    I will sing to the Lord,
    because he has dealt bountifully with me.
  • Now therefore, if you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession out of all the peoples. Indeed, the whole earth is mine.
  • They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serve them.
  • He answered, “Have you not read that the one who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
  • God said, “See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food.”
