- Our help is from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth. - God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?
- He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will never be shaken. - There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.
- So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
- Choose a good reputation over great riches;
being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold. - A person without self-control
is like a city with broken-down walls. - The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
- Do not withhold good from those who deserve it
when it’s in your power to help them. - The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.
- This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here.
- But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.
- Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
- Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.
- Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
- The name of the Lord is a strong fortress;
the godly run to him and are safe. - My victory and honor come from God alone.
He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. - I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message.
- God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.
- After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.”
- God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble. - Everyone enjoys a fitting reply;
it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time! - A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
- It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in people. - No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
