Bible Verses about 'Sin'

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.
Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.”Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.”
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people.
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?
For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means!Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not!
When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!
“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues.Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.
And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven.
What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.”
Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe. But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.
Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin.
So that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.So also Christ was offered once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.
