God’s love was revealed to us in this way: God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might have life through him. | By this the love of God was revealed in us, that God has sent His only Son into the world so that we may live through Him. |
I, the Lord, am your God. You must obey my laws and be careful to observe my ordinances. Keep holy my Sabbaths as a sign between me and you so that you will know that I am the Lord, your God. | I am the Lord your God; walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances and follow them. Sanctify My Sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between Me and you, so that you may know that I am the Lord your God. |
If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person. For the temple of God is holy, and you are that temple. | If anyone destroys the temple of God, God will destroy that person; for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. |
Jesus replied, “Did I not tell you that if you have faith you will see the glory of God?” | Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” |
Oh, that they would have fear of me in their hearts and they would observe all of my commandments always. Then things would go well with them and their children forever. | If only they had such a heart in them, to fear Me and keep all My commandments always, so that it would go well with them and with their sons forever! |
See what love the Father has bestowed on us, enabling us to be called the children of God, and that is what we are. If the world does not recognize us, that is because it did not know him. | See how great a love the Father has given us, that we would be called children of God; and in fact we are. For this reason the world does not know us: because it did not know Him. |
By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. | My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. |
He brought you low, allowing you to suffer from hunger. He then fed you with manna, something with which your fathers were not familiar, so that you might come to know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord. | And He humbled you and let you go hungry, and fed you with the manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, in order to make you understand that man shall not live on bread alone, but man shall live on everything that comes out of the mouth of the Lord. |
For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so too do we believe that God will bring forth with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. | For if we believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead, so also God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus. |
And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do as much. | And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. |
You have heard that it was said of old: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that anyone who looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his heart. | You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. |
And every tongue should proclaim to the glory of God the Father: Jesus Christ is Lord. | And that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. |
We also know that the Son of God has come and given us understanding so that we can know the one who is true. And we are in the one who is true, since we are in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. | And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. |
Be still and acknowledge that I am God, exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth. | Stop striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted on the earth. |
In that way, I can come to you in joy, if God so wills, and be refreshed together with you. | So that I may come to you in joy by the will of God and relax in your company. |
I want their hearts to be encouraged and united in love so that they may grow rich in their complete understanding as they come to the knowledge of the mystery of God, that is, Christ. | That their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and that they would attain to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself. |
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall also be united with him in his resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be destroyed and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. | For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. |
Like newborn infants, long for pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may advance on the path to salvation. | And like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation. |
Put on the armor of God so that you will be able to stand firm against the deceit of the devil. | Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. |
