Thine (2/4)

  • My son, do not forget my teaching,
    but let your heart keep my commandments,
    for length of days and years of life
    and peace they will add to you.
  • But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.
  • If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath,
    from doing your pleasure on my holy day,
    and call the Sabbath a delight
    and the holy day of the Lord honorable;
    if you honor it, not going your own ways,
    or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly;
    then you shall take delight in the Lord,
    and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth;
    I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father,
    for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
  • Know therefore today, and lay it to your heart, that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.
  • He who finds a wife finds a good thing
    and obtains favor from the Lord.
  • Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
  • Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
  • And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
  • The young lions suffer want and hunger;
    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
  • Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin.
  • “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up.
  • Do not forsake your friend and your father's friend,
    and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity.
    Better is a neighbor who is near
    than a brother who is far away.
  • Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
    bind them around your neck;
    write them on the tablet of your heart.
    So you will find favor and good success
    in the sight of God and man.
  • But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
  • If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.
  • For not by their own sword did they win the land,
    nor did their own arm save them,
    but your right hand and your arm,
    and the light of your face,
    for you delighted in them.
  • Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
  • But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
  • Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
  • Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets,
    but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.
  • For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing.
  • Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.
  • Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.
  • Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?
  • Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

It does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
