The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us. | May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us or abandon us. |
For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried. | You have tested us, O God; you have purified us like silver. |
|
Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. | Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” |
Give us this day our daily bread. | Give us today the food we need. |
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? | What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? |
O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker. | Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker. |
We love him, because he first loved us. | We love each other because he loved us first. |
Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. | And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us. |
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. | And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. |
Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake. | Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness. |
No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. | No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us. |
Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake. | Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the glory of your name. Save us and forgive our sins for the honor of your name. |
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. | Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. |
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. | And forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. |
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. | So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. |
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began. | For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. |
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? | Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? |
Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord. | Instead, let us test and examine our ways. Let us turn back to the Lord. |
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. | But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. |
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. | Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. |
And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation. | And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. |
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. | He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. |
Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. | Turn us again to yourself, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. |
And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. | Those who obey God’s commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us. |
God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him. | Yes, God will bless us, and people all over the world will fear him. |
