| Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone. | Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you. |
| Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. | Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. |
| Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. | So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. |
| And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful! | Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands! |
| For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. | For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. |
| For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. | He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. |
| And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. | And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. |
| And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for. | And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. |
| By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. | His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence. |
| See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. | See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. |
| No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. | No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. |
| He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. | As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. |

| Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. | If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. |
| He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession. | Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. |
| So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. | So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. |
| For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. | And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. | Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. |
| And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. | And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. |
| But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. | But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. | For we will be counted as righteous when we obey all the commands the Lord our God has given us. | And it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to do all this commandment before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us. |
| Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. | Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. |
| Please, Lord, please save us. Please, Lord, please give us success. Bless the one who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord. | Save us, we pray, O Lord! O Lord, we pray, give us success! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We bless you from the house of the Lord. |
