Want (2/2)

  • For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!
  • Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”
  • Fools find no pleasure in understanding
but delight in airing their own opinions.
  • But let justice roll on like a river,
    righteousness like a never-failing stream!
  • Take words with you
    and return to the Lord.
    Say to him:
    “Forgive all our sins
    and receive us graciously,
that we may offer the fruit of our lips.”
  • I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.
  • If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
  • Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
  • Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?
  • So is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
  • The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
  • You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
  • The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
  • Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
    to set the oppressed free
    and break every yoke?
  • But, “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.
  • But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.
  • This is what the Lord says:
    “Stand at the crossroads and look;
    ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.
But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’”
  • For, “Whoever would love life
    and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
    They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.”

Bible verse of the day

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are attentive to their cry.
