- Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill them.
- Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword.
- The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me
because the Lord has anointed me.
He has sent me to announce good news to the oppressed,
to strengthen the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom to those held in captivity
and release to those who have been imprisoned. - It is better to acquire wisdom rather than gold,
and more desirable to acquire understanding rather than silver. - There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save or to destroy. Who then are you to pass judgment on a neighbor?
- However, to those who did accept him
and who believed in his name
he granted the power to become children of God. - Take heed to follow the commandments and the laws that Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave you: to love the Lord, your God, and to walk in his ways and to observe his commandments, holding fast to him and serving him with all your heart and all your soul.
- Behold, we are now going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death. Then they will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and on the third day he will be raised to life.
- He gives strength to the weary
and new vigor to those who are powerless. - Pleasing words are like a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and affording health to the body. - It is rash to pledge a sacred gift,
or to make a vow and then have second thoughts. - Therefore, he has the full power to save those who approach God through him, since he lives forever to intercede for them.
- Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
but to your name give glory
because of your kindness and faithfulness. - Do not swerve either to the right or to the left;
keep your foot far from evil. - To do what is right and just
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. - You intended to do evil to me, but God decided to make it serve a good, to fulfill that which today has come true: to keep alive a numerous people.
- The Lord has told you, O man, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
Only this: to do what is right, to show mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God. - For God will repay everyone in accordance with what his deeds deserve.
- Do not withhold kindness from anyone to whom it is due
when it is in your power to grant it. - Through the grace that God has bestowed upon me, I advise every one of you not to think of yourself too highly, but to regard yourself objectively, based on the measure of faith that God has granted.
- This rather is the type of fast that I wish:
to loosen the fetters of injustice,
to undo the thongs of the yoke,
to set free those who are oppressed
and to break every yoke. - Then he said to them, “Go forth into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to all creation.”
- Dispose my heart to follow your statutes
and to flee selfish gain. - I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have life. - Moreover, the one to whom God grants wealth and possessions and the ability to enjoy them and to find contentment in his toil receives a gift from God.
