whose disobedience is forgiven,
whose sin is put out of sight! - What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord,
whose people he has chosen as his inheritance. - You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you! - Joyful are people of integrity,
who follow the instructions of the Lord. - But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
are only a small village among all the people of Judah.

whose origins are in the distant past,
will come from you on my behalf. - I praise God for what he has promised.

Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.
- The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is a wonderful teacher,
and he gives the farmer great wisdom. - I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
