| If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. | You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it. |
| And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. | And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that much! |

| Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. | I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. |
| And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever. | And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. |
| Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” | Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” |

| Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” | Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” |
| I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. | And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. |
| I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. | For I long to visit you so I can bring you some spiritual gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord. When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours. |
| Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? | Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? |
| I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. | I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! |
| But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. | But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. |
| For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. | If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. |
| You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. | I never shrank back from telling you what you needed to hear, either publicly or in your homes. |
| Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. | Do what is good and run from evil so that you may live! Then the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will be your helper, just as you have claimed. |
| Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. | I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you. |
| Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. | I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. |
| Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. | In those days when you pray, I will listen. |
| If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him. | If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him! |
| For you, God, tested us; you refined us like silver. | You have tested us, O God; you have purified us like silver. |
| Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. | Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you. |
| So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? | I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ. |
| And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. | And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations. |
| You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. | For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace. |
