- So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
- If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.
- Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.
- People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life,
but those who ignore correction will go astray. - You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.
- Fearing people is a dangerous trap,
but trusting the Lord means safety. - We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.
- Hiding hatred makes you a liar;
slandering others makes you a fool. - And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get.
- Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.
- When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.
- But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
- I will bless my people and their homes around my holy hill. And in the proper season I will send the showers they need. There will be showers of blessing.
- And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
- But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
- And the Lord our God commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear him so he can continue to bless us and preserve our lives, as he has done to this day.

He was despised, and we did not care. - In the same way, some think one day is more holy than another day, while others think every day is alike. You should each be fully convinced that whichever day you choose is acceptable.
- But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!
- Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law.
- Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.
- But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.
- No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
- For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.
