- As we proceed in the path of your judgments,
we wait for you, O Lord;
your name and your renown
are all that our heart desires. - The tongue of the just man is like pure silver;
the heart of the wicked is without worth. - The heart is more deceitful than any other thing,
and it is also perverse.
Who can uncover its secrets?
I, the Lord, search the heart
and probe the mind
to reward all according to their conduct
and as their deeds deserve. - Hence, I advise you to be guided by the Spirit, so that you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
- Your word is a lamp for my feet
and a light to my path. - The precepts of the Lord are right,
causing the heart to rejoice.
The commands of the Lord are clear,
giving light to the eyes. - Even if an army encamps against me,
my heart will not succumb to fear;
even if war breaks out against me,
I will not have my trust shaken. - When you look at the tassels, you will remember the commandments of the Lord and keep them. Thus you will not prostitute yourselves by following after the lusts in your own heart or your own eyes.
- You might say to yourself, “How can we know that the Lord did not speak the message?” If what the prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord is not true and it does not happen, then the message was not proclaimed by the Lord. The prophet has spoken presumptuously, you should not fear him.
- Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil,
but those who counsel peace have joy. - Take care, brethren, that none of you will ever have an evil and unbelieving heart that will cause you to forsake the living God.
- When I fed them, they were satisfied;
when they were satisfied, they became proud of heart
and quickly forgot me. - Turn away from youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, together with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart.
- The entire community of believers was united in heart and soul. No one claimed any of his possessions as his own, for everything was held in common.
- Teach us to comprehend how few our days are
so that our hearts may be filled with wisdom. - Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore, he instructs sinners in his ways.
He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them the path to follow. - A wise man will heed commandments,
but a babbling fool will come to grief. - A man is haughty until disaster overtakes him,
but humility comes before honors. - Therefore, we do not lose heart. Even though our outer self is continuing to decay, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
- He said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not realize that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not into the heart but into the stomach and is discharged into the sewer?” Thus, he pronounced all foods clean.
- You have heard that it was said of old: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that anyone who looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
- For as it is written,
“Eye has not seen, ear has not heard,
nor has the human heart imagined
what God has prepared for those who love him.” - Because I delivered the poor who appealed for help
and the orphan who had no one to protect him.
The blessing of the wretched was given to me,
and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. - Let your face shine upon your servant;
save me in your kindness. - The one who leads a blameless life
and does what is right,
who speaks the truth from the heart
and does not slander anyone,
who does not harm a friend
and does not scorn a neighbor.
