Life after death (4/4)

  • They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on his head. They put a reed in his right hand and knelt before him and mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
  • The Lord your God you shall follow, him alone you shall fear, his commandments you shall keep, his voice you shall obey, him you shall serve, and to him you shall hold fast.
  • Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
    I fear no evil;
    for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff—
    they comfort me.
  • Just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.
  • And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”
  • For if you truly amend your ways and your doings, if you truly act justly one with another, if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own hurt, then I will dwell with you in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your ancestors forever and ever.
  • The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
  • We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us—and we ought to lay down our lives for one another.
  • Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will also fast as you do. After that I will go to the king, though it is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.
  • And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
    “See, the home of God is among mortals.
    He will dwell with them as their God;
    they will be his peoples,
    and God himself will be with them;
    he will wipe every tear from their eyes.
    Death will be no more;
    mourning and crying and pain will be no more,
    for the first things have passed away.”
  • But surely, God is my helper;
    the Lord is the upholder of my life.
  • He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”
  • You show me the path of life.
    In your presence there is fullness of joy;
    in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
  • If you sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit.
  • Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
  • By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,
    and at night his song is with me,
    a prayer to the God of my life.
  • The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    whom shall I fear?
    The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
    of whom shall I be afraid?
  • Indeed, all who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
  • For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?
  • When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.
  • Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
  • For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
  • For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.
  • But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life.
  • I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
