- For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?
- As in water face reflects face,
so the heart of man reflects the man. - And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
- A fool gives full vent to his spirit,
but a wise man quietly holds it back. - To make an apt answer is a joy to a man,
and a word in season, how good it is! - So we can confidently say,
“The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear;
what can man do to me?” - Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man!
- God is not man, that he should lie,
or a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Has he said, and will he not do it?
Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? - When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be liable for any other public duty. He shall be free at home one year to be happy with his wife whom he has taken.
- I, I am he who comforts you;
who are you that you are afraid of man who dies,
of the son of man who is made like grass. - Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
- But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.
- The fear of man lays a snare,
but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe. - Whoever walks in integrity walks securely,
but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out. - Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
- It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife,
but every fool will be quarreling. - This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him
and saved him out of all his troubles. - He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not. - The ransom of a man's life is his wealth,
but a poor man hears no threat. - And that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
For you will render to a man
according to his work. - But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
- See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.
- Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! - Iron sharpens iron,
and one man sharpens another. - He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
