| But ‘God made them male and female’ from the beginning of creation. ‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together. | But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. | So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes. | Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. |
| Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight—something the law of Moses could never do. | Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses. |
| In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. | So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. |

| Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. | Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. |

| Loyalty makes a person attractive. It is better to be poor than dishonest. | What is desired in a man is kindness, And a poor man is better than a liar. |
| As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person. | As in water face reflects face, So a man’s heart reveals the man. |
| Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. | Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding. |
| In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles. | This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles. |
| As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. | As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. |
| Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety. | The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. |
| And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? | For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? |
| One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples began breaking off heads of grain to eat. But the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look, why are they breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?” Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He went into the house of God (during the days when Abiathar was high priest) and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his companions.” Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!” | Now it happened that He went through the grainfields on the Sabbath; and as they went His disciples began to pluck the heads of grain. And the Pharisees said to Him, “Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” But He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, he and those with him: how he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and also gave some to those who were with him?” And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.” |
| A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; gossip separates the best of friends. | A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends. |
| A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart. | A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. |
| Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back. | A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back. |
| How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. | How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. |
| And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? | For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? |
| Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. | Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. |
| And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife. | Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them. |
| Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! | Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! |
| There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. | There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. |
