| For the law was not intended for people who do what is right. | Give to everyone what you owe them: Pay your taxes and government fees to those who collect them, and give respect and honor to those who are in authority. | Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. |

| The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. | No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. |
| Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God. | Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith. |
| Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. | Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. |
| I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. | That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love. |

| For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love. | For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield. |
| Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor. | Before destruction a man's heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor. |
| There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. | Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. |
| Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly. | It is well with the man who deals generously and lends; who conducts his affairs with justice. |
| All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the Book of Life, but I will announce before my Father and his angels that they are mine. | The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. |
| Don’t trap yourself by making a rash promise to God and only later counting the cost. | It is a snare to say rashly, “It is holy,” and to reflect only after making vows. |
