- Everyone enjoys a fitting reply;
it is wonderful to say the right thing at the right time! - Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.”
- You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.
- I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.
- Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.
- But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned.
- Don’t trap yourself by making a rash promise to God
and only later counting the cost. - I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.
- So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
- As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”
- And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
- “Don’t cling to me,” Jesus said, “for I haven’t yet ascended to the Father. But go find my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
- And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get.
- Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.”
- But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say,
‘People do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” - You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.
- Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!”
- For the Scriptures say,
“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,
‘every knee will bend to me,
and every tongue will declare allegiance to God.’” - When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.
- But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.
For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” - I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’
- That is what the Scriptures mean when they say,
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard,
and no mind has imagined
what God has prepared
for those who love him.” - Wait patiently for the Lord.
Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. - Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
- In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.
