- So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
- Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
- Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.
- From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
- Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;
Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy. - The Lord commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the Lord our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.
- Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom. - And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
- Turn my heart toward your statutes
and not toward selfish gain. - When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.
- Repent at my rebuke!
Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
I will make known to you my teachings. - Wealth and honor come from you;
you are the ruler of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all. - Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
- Eloquent lips are unsuited to a godless fool—
how much worse lying lips to a ruler! - Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.
- Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
- The heart is deceitful above all things
and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
“I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind,
to reward each person according to their conduct,
according to what their deeds deserve.” - Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
- “If you do not listen, and if you do not resolve to honor my name,” says the Lord Almighty, “I will send a curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not resolved to honor me.”
- I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.
- And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
- But the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.
- But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
- My son, pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight,
keep them within your heart. - I desire to do your will, my God;
your law is within my heart.
“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.” These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.Next verse!With image
