That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. | For this reason, I rejoice when I endure weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and distress for the sake of Christ. For it is when I am weak that I am strong. |
Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. | But he answered me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” Hence, I will boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell within me. |

My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. | Even should my heart and my flesh fail, God is the rock of my heart and my portion forever. |
He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. | He gives strength to the weary and new vigor to those who are powerless. |
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. | Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares about you. |
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” | Come to me, all you who are weary and overburdened, and I will give you rest. |
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. | In the same way, even the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs that cannot be put into words. |
For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. | I can do all things in him who strengthens me. |
Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak! | Stay awake and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak. |
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. | For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but rather a spirit of power and of love and of wisdom. |
This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. | For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tested in every respect as we are, but without sinning. |
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength. | A cheerful heart is excellent medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. |
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. | Speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves, and defend the rights of the destitute. |
Give justice to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute. | Grant justice to the weak and the orphan; defend the rights of the lowly and the poor. |
I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me. | The depths of the sea resound in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and your breakers sweep over me. |
