Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. | Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. |
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. | I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. |
|
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. | In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul. |
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. | But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. |
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. | Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. |
But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. | Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. |
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever. | And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever. |
When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. | I called on the Lord in distress; The Lord answered me and set me in a broad place. |
I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mere mortals, human beings who are but grass. | I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid Of a man who will die, And of the son of a man who will be made like grass? |
‘Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat down on them,’ nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’ | They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. |
For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. | For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. |
When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. | But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. |
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had. | Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus. |
