Act (2/3)

  • So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.
  • I never shrank back from telling you what you needed to hear, either publicly or in your homes.
  • For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
  • They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”
  • There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.
  • Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.
  • We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him.
  • Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?
  • After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.
  • Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.
  • “As I began to speak,” Peter continued, “the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as he fell on us at the beginning.”
  • Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening.
  • What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord.
  • And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.”
  • For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says,
‘The stone that you builders rejected
    has now become the cornerstone.’
  • Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
  • All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had.
  • He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name.
  • Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All his acts are just and true, and he is able to humble the proud.
  • After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.
  • Then Peter replied, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. In every nation he accepts those who fear him and do what is right.”
  • They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.
  • When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.
  • For the Lord gave us this command when he said,
‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles,
to bring salvation to the farthest corners of the earth.’
  • All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.

Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.”
