  • The vine is dried up
    and the fig tree is withered;
    the pomegranate, the palm and the apple tree—
    all the trees of the field—are dried up.
    Surely the people’s joy
    is withered away.
  • For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
  • To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.
  • So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
  • And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
  • The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
    a stronghold in times of trouble.
  • Take delight in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.
  • Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
  • Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
  • For with much wisdom comes much sorrow;
    the more knowledge, the more grief.
  • Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
  • “And with you, Lord, is unfailing love”;
    and, “You reward everyone
    according to what they have done.”
  • For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

  • We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.
  • Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
  • But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
  • We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.
  • So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
  • Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.
  • Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.
  • I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.
