- For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
- The vine is dried up
and the fig tree is withered;
the pomegranate, the palm and the apple tree—
all the trees of the field—are dried up.
Surely the people’s joy
is withered away. - Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
- My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praise to you—
I whom you have delivered. - One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
- Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
- This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
- For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
- But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
- But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.
- So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
- And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
- You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
- Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart. - For with much wisdom comes much sorrow;
the more knowledge, the more grief. - Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.
- And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
- “And with you, Lord, is unfailing love”;
and, “You reward everyone
according to what they have done.” - So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
- And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.
- We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.
- They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.
- Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.
- Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
- Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.Next verse!With image
