Burdens be lifted up (3/4)

  • Then Peter came up to him and asked, “Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus answered, “I say to you, not seven times but seventy times seven.”
  • Rather, professing truth and love, we will in all things grow into him who is the head, Christ.
  • Is anyone among you sick? He should send for the presbyters of the Church so that they may pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven.
  • Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
  • When the command is given, at the sound of the archangel’s voice and the call of God’s trumpet, the Lord himself will descend from heaven, and those who have died in Christ will be the first to rise. Then those of us who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them on clouds in the air to meet the Lord. And so, we will be with the Lord forever.
  • Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her in order to sanctify her by cleansing her with water and the word.
  • However, you, dear friends, must build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in the love of God as you await our Lord Jesus Christ in his mercy, who will grant you eternal life.
  • Your kindness is a greater joy than life itself;
    thus my lips will speak your praise.
    I will bless you all my life;
    with uplifted hands I will call on your name.
  • The Lord makes poor and makes rich,
    he humbles and he also exalts.
  • Train a child in the way he should go,
    and he will not deviate from it, even in old age.
  • “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and every other commandment are all summed up in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
  • Without any doubt, the mystery of our religion is great:
    He was made visible in the flesh,
    vindicated by the Spirit,
    seen by angels,
    proclaimed to the Gentiles,
    believed in throughout the world,
    taken up in glory.
  • As servants of God, behave as free people, but do not use your freedom as a means to cover up wrongdoing.
  • But you, O Lord, are a shield to protect me;
    you are my glory and the one who raises my head high.
  • The Lord bless you and keep you.
    The Lord shine his face upon you and be gracious to you.
    The Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace.
  • O Lord, you have examined me
    and you know me.
    You know when I sit and when I stand;
    you perceive my thoughts from a distance.
  • Return and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people: Thus says the Lord, the God of David, your father: I have heard, I have seen your tears. I will heal you today, and the day after tomorrow you will go up to the temple of the Lord.
  • Keep alert; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.
  • The tax collector, however, stood some distance away and would not even raise his eyes to heaven. Rather, he kept beating his breast as he said, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner.’
  • You shall keep these things that I command you today in your heart. Teach them to your children. You shall talk of them when you are sitting in your home, and when you are walking along the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.
  • Therefore, put on the armor of God, so that you will be able to hold fast on the evil day and to hold your ground with all your strength.
  • You, O Lord, are light for my lamp;
    O my God, you make my darkness turn to light.
  • This must not be so with you. Instead, whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your servant.
  • Anxiety in the human heart weighs it down,
    but a kind word makes it glad.
  • Those who place their hope in the Lord
    will regain their strength.
    They will soar as with eagles’ wings,
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not become faint.

Meanwhile, the Church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria enjoyed peace, building up strength and living in the fear of the Lord. Encouraged by the Holy Spirit, the Church grew in numbers.

Bible verse of the day

For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so too do we believe that God will bring forth with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
