  • A gentle reply turns away wrath,
but a harsh word arouses anger.
  • Then, after he had spoken to them, the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven, and there he took his place at the right hand of God.
  • When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you, to bless you by turning each one of you from your wicked ways.
  • For the entire Law can be summed up in a single commandment: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
  • But whoever drinks the water that I will give him
    will never be thirsty.
The water that I will give him
will become a spring of water within him
    welling up to eternal life.
  • For thus says the One who is high and exalted,
    who lives eternally
    and whose name is holy:
I dwell in a high and holy place
but I am with the contrite and the humble,
to revive the spirit of the humble
and to revive the heart of the contrite.
  • Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and blessed and broke them and gave them to the disciples to distribute among the people. They all ate and were satisfied. Then they gathered up what was left over—twelve baskets of fragments.
  • Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

from where will I receive help?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
  • He did not spare his own Son but gave him up for all of us. How then can he fail also to give us everything else along with him?
  • He then called the people and his disciples to him and said to them, “Anyone who wishes to follow me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”
  • And opens the eyes of those who cannot see.
    The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
    the Lord loves the righteous.
  • Behold, we are now going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death. Then they will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and on the third day he will be raised to life.
  • Let us never grow weary in doing what is right, for if we do not give up, we will reap our harvest in due time.
  • There is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing secret that will not become known.
  • And anyone who does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
  • How great is your goodness, O Lord,
which you have stored up for those who fear you
and which you bestow on those who take refuge in you,
in the presence of all the people.
  • At dawn let me experience your kindness,
for in you I place my trust.
Show me the path I must walk,
for to you I lift up my soul.
  • While he was departing as they gazed upward toward the sky, suddenly two men dressed in white robes stood beside them, and they said, “Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking up into the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come back in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.”
  • And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a sacrificial offering whose fragrance is pleasing to God.
  • He reserves his wisdom for the upright
and is a shield to those who lead blameless lives.

Then another scroll was opened, the book of life, and the dead were judged according to their deeds, as were recorded in the scrolls. The sea gave up all the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them. The dead were judged according to their deeds.
  • But even so the Lord is waiting to be gracious to you,
and he will rise up to grant you his compassion.
    For the Lord is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for him.

Then Peter came up to him and asked, “Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus answered, “I say to you, not seven times but seventy times seven.”

For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so too do we believe that God will bring forth with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
