For we walk by faith, not by sight. | For we walk by faith, not by sight. |
This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. | This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of hosts. |

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. | By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth. |
We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. | We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. And we have come to believe in Christ Jesus, so that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by doing the works of the law, because no one will be justified by the works of the law. |
But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. | But I say to you, Do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. |
But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. | Above all, my beloved, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “Yes” be yes and your “No” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation. |
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. | So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ. |
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. | But he answered, “It is written, ‘One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” |
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. | For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. |
For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. | For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being. |
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. | Wealth hastily gotten will dwindle, but those who gather little by little will increase it. |
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. | Because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. |
Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. | For “no human being will be justified in his sight” by deeds prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin. |
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. | How can young people keep their way pure? By guarding it according to your word. |
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. | If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit. |
For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. | For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. |
He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? | Well then, does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you by your doing the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? |
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. | For just as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous. |
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. | Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. |
I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name. | I was ready to be sought out by those who did not ask, to be found by those who did not seek me. I said, “Here I am, here I am,” to a nation that did not call on my name. |
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. | So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. |
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost. | He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. |
Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee. | Ah Lord God! It is you who made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you. |
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. | By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. |
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. | For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. |
