| Or can a man walk on red-hot coals without scorching his feet? | Can one walk on hot coals, And his feet not be seared? |
| When things are going well, be grateful for your blessings, and in times of adversity consider this: God has made both of them, so that we cannot predict with confidence what the future holds. | In the day of prosperity be joyful, But in the day of adversity consider: Surely God has appointed the one as well as the other, So that man can find out nothing that will come after him. |
| Who can find a worthy wife? She is far more precious than pearls. | Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. |

| How can a young man lead a spotless life? By living according to your word. | How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. |
| You can eat any water creature that has fins and scales; those you can eat. Whatever does not have fins or scales, you are not to eat. It is unclean for you. | These you may eat of all that are in the waters: you may eat all that have fins and scales. And whatever does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you. |

| In God, whose word I praise, in God I place my trust and know no fear; what can people do to me? | In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me? |
| Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where they will be destroyed by moth and rust and where thieves break in and steal. Rather, store up treasure for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves cannot break in and steal. | Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. |
| Great is the Lord and worthy of the highest praise; no one can even begin to comprehend his greatness. | Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable. |
| For the entire Law can be summed up in a single commandment: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” | For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” |
| Can anyone withhold the water of baptism from these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? | Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? |
