- What then can we say in response to all this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
- Do you suppose that I cannot appeal to my Father for help and he will not immediately send me more than twelve legions of angels?
- Therefore, we can say with confidence:
“The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid.
What can anyone do to me?” - For our eyes are fixed not on what is seen but rather on that which cannot be seen. What is visible is transitory; what is invisible is eternal.
- I can do all things in him who strengthens me.
- If someone says, “I love God,”
but at the same time hates his brother,
he is a liar.
For whoever does not love the brother
whom he has seen
cannot love God whom he has not seen. - For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the Spirit, and those of the Spirit are opposed to the flesh. They are in conflict with one another, so that you cannot do what you want.
- Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the eternal God,
the Creator of the earth’s farthest boundaries.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding cannot be scrutinized. - Or can a man walk on red-hot coals
without scorching his feet? - When things are going well, be grateful for your blessings,
and in times of adversity consider this:
God has made both of them,
so that we cannot predict with confidence
what the future holds. - Who can find a worthy wife?
She is far more precious than pearls. - No one can have greater love
than to lay down his life for his friends. - With the Lord to protect me I am not afraid.
What can mortals do to me? - How can a young man lead a spotless life?
By living according to your word. - You can eat any water creature that has fins and scales; those you can eat. Whatever does not have fins or scales, you are not to eat. It is unclean for you.
- In peace I lie down and sleep,
for only with your help, O Lord,
can I rest secure. - Some friends can lead us to ruin,
but a true friend is closer than a brother. - Where can I go to hide from your spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to the heavens, you are there;
if I take my rest in the netherworld, you are also there. - This saying can be trusted:
If we have died with him,
we shall also live with him. - In that way, I can come to you in joy, if God so wills, and be refreshed together with you.
- In God, whose word I praise,
in God I place my trust and know no fear;
what can people do to me? - Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where they will be destroyed by moth and rust and where thieves break in and steal. Rather, store up treasure for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves cannot break in and steal.
- Great is the Lord and worthy of the highest praise;
no one can even begin to comprehend his greatness. - For the entire Law can be summed up in a single commandment: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
- Can anyone withhold the water of baptism from these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?
And thus we can have confidence in him
that if we ask anything
that is in accordance with his will,
he hears us.What god can compare with you,
the God who takes away guilt
and forgives the transgressions
of the remnant of your people?
You will not allow your anger to fester forever,
for your delight is in bestowing mercy. When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
nor will the waters engulf you.
When you walk through fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not consume you.Next verse!With image
