- For the customs of the peoples are futile;
For it is wood cut from the forest,

- And if you say in your heart, ‘How will we recognize the word which the Lord has not spoken?’ When the prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, and the thing does not happen or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you are not to be afraid of him.
- But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, but with gentleness and respect.
- God is not a man, that He would lie,
Nor a son of man, that He would change His mind;
Has He said, and will He not do it?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? - Not to us, Lord, not to us,
But to Your name give glory,
Because of Your mercy, because of Your truth. - What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Far from it! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
- And the one who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
- The one who has the Son has the life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
- But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.
