First. Order (2/3)

  • Let no one delude himself. If anyone among you considers himself to be wise by worldly standards, he must become a fool in order to be truly wise.
  • And I heard a loud voice proclaim from the throne:
    “Behold, God’s dwelling is with mankind;
    he will dwell with them.
    They will be his people,
and he will be their God,
    God-with-them.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes,
and there will no longer be death.
Neither will there be any mourning or crying or pain,
for the old order has passed away.”
  • You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.
  • He is the head of the body,
    that is, the Church.
    He is the beginning,
    the firstborn from the dead,
    so that in every way
    he should be supreme.
  • Let no one deceive you in any way.
That Day cannot come before the final rebellion occurs and the lawless one is revealed, the son of destruction. He is the adversary who sets himself in opposition to, and exalts himself above, every so-called god or object of worship, and who even seats himself in the temple of God, declaring himself to be God.
  • For we will become partners with Christ only if we maintain firmly until the end the confidence we originally had.
  • But he answered me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” Hence, I will boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell within me.
  • But for that very reason I was treated mercifully, so that in me Jesus Christ might exhibit his inexhaustible patience, making me an example for those who would come to believe in him for eternal life.
  • All this took place in order to fulfill what the Lord had announced through the prophet:
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and give birth to a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,”
a name that means “God is with us.”
  • Therefore, whenever you give alms, do not trumpet your generosity, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets in order to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have already received their reward.
  • As long as the goodwill is present, the gift will be acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.
  • Guide my steps in accord with your word
and never let evil triumph over me.
  • Therefore, accept one another for the glory of God, just as Christ has accepted you.
  • Keep falsehood and lying far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but simply provide me with the food that I need.
  • He brought you low, allowing you to suffer from hunger. He then fed you with manna, something with which your fathers were not familiar, so that you might come to know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord.
  • For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall also be united with him in his resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be destroyed and we might no longer be enslaved to sin.
  • Repent, therefore, and be converted so that your sins may be wiped away.
  • And whenever you stand in prayer, forgive whatever grievance you have against anybody, so that your Father in heaven may forgive your wrongs too.
  • I have made your name known to them,
and I will make it known,
so that the love with which you loved me
may be in them, and I in them.
  • But who am I, and what are your people,
that we should be able to do this?
    All things belong to you,
and everything that we have given you is from your hand.
  • In it the righteousness of God is revealed, beginning in faith and established in faith. As it is written: “The one who is righteous will live through faith.”
  • And now, brethren, farewell. Mend your ways. Encourage one another. Be of one mind and live in peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
  • I further pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know the hope to which he has called you, how rich and glorious is his inheritance in the saints.
  • For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the Spirit, and those of the Spirit are opposed to the flesh. They are in conflict with one another, so that you cannot do what you want.
  • But you are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people claimed by God as his own possession,” so that you may proclaim the praise of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

I want their hearts to be encouraged and united in love so that they may grow rich in their complete understanding as they come to the knowledge of the mystery of God, that is, Christ.
