Giving to the needy (2/4)

  • The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
    and his ears are open to their cry.
  • For God did not send his Son into the world
    to condemn the world
    but in order that the world might be saved through him.
  • To do what is right and just
    is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
  • But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Your almsgiving must be done in secret. And your Father who sees everything that is done in secret will reward you.
  • Every good act of giving and every perfect gift are from above, coming down from the Father of all light. With him there is no alteration or shadow caused by change.
  • But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for I bring you good news of great joy for all the people.”
  • “Peace be with you,” Jesus said to them again.
    “As the Father has sent me,
    so I send you.”
  • Sing praise to the Lord for his mighty deeds;
    let this be known throughout the entire world.
  • To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
  • However, whoever lives by the truth
    comes to the light
    so that it may be clearly seen
    that his deeds have been done in God.
  • A gift opens doors for the giver
    and wins him access to the powerful.
  • Honor your father and your mother so that your days may be lengthened in the land that the Lord your God, will give you.
  • During the day the Lord grants his kindness,
    and at night his praise is with me,
    a prayer to the living God.
  • And so now, O Israel, what does the Lord, your God, require of you but to fear the Lord, your God, to walk in all of his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord, your God, with all your heart and all your soul, and to observe the commandments and the statutes that I am giving you today for your own good.
  • I lift up my eyes to the mountains;
    from where will I receive help?
    My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.
  • He continued, “Then put away the foreign gods from among you. Bend your heart to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
  • For so has the Lord commanded us to do, saying,
    ‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles
    so that you may bring salvation
    to the farthest corners of the earth.’
  • About midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
  • Then, after he had spoken to them, the Lord Jesus was taken up into heaven, and there he took his place at the right hand of God.
  • You shall obey his statutes and the commandments that I give you today, so that all may go well with you and your children after you, and that you may live long in the land that the Lord, your God, has given you for all time.
  • But as for me, I will look to the Lord.
    I place my hope in God my savior;
    my God will hear me.
  • If he refuses to listen to them, report it to the Church. And if he refuses to listen to the Church, treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.
  • For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
    and his ears are attentive to their prayer.
    However, the face of the Lord
    is set against those who do evil.
  • Jesus replied, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
  • Then he sat down, summoned the Twelve, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to be first, he must become the last of all and the servant of all.”

They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayers.

Even though I wander
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are at my side,
with your rod and your staff
that comfort me.
