Bible Verses about 'Helping the poor'
- Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. - Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless.
Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. - The rich rule over the poor.
The borrower is servant to the lender. - The ransom of a man’s life is his riches,
but the poor hear no threats. - Open your mouth, judge righteously,
and serve justice to the poor and needy. - Yahweh makes poor and makes rich.
He brings low, he also lifts up. - That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness.
A poor man is better than a liar. - Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
- If I give away all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but don’t have love, it profits me nothing.
- Because I delivered the poor who cried,
and the fatherless also, who had no one to help him,
the blessing of him who was ready to perish came on me,
and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. - This poor man cried, and Yahweh heard him,
and saved him out of all his troubles. - As sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as having nothing and yet possessing all things.
- The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to heal the broken hearted,
to proclaim release to the captives,
recovering of sight to the blind,
to deliver those who are crushed. - Thus has Yahweh of Armies spoken, saying, ‘Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother. Don’t oppress the widow, the fatherless, the foreigner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.’
- The Lord Yahweh’s Spirit is on me,
because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble.
He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives
and release to those who are bound. - It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends.
He will maintain his cause in judgment. - He answered them, “He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.”
- Our help is in Yahweh’s name,
who made heaven and earth. - I will lift up my eyes to the hills.
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from Yahweh,
who made heaven and earth. - Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position; and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.
- Therefore, when you do merciful deeds, don’t sound a trumpet before yourself, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from men. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward.
- God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble. - Arise, Yahweh!
God, lift up your hand!
Don’t forget the helpless. - Behold, God is my helper.
The Lord is the one who sustains my soul. - For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s.
- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- But when you do merciful deeds, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does, so that your merciful deeds may be in secret, then your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
- For I, Yahweh your God, will hold your right hand,
saying to you, ‘Don’t be afraid.
I will help you.’ - Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.

but the name of the wicked will rot. - Help us, God of our salvation, for the glory of your name.
Deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name’s sake. - He is the head of the body, the assembly, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence.

but the hope of the wicked will perish. - In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep and God’s Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.
- The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom.
The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. - Yahweh’s law is perfect, restoring the soul.
Yahweh’s covenant is sure, making wise the simple. - Yahweh opens the eyes of the blind.
Yahweh raises up those who are bowed down.
Yahweh loves the righteous. - Yahweh preserves the foreigners.
He upholds the fatherless and widow,
but he turns the way of the wicked upside down. - And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
- Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body.
- Whoever denies the Son doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.
- Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

but violence covers the mouth of the wicked. - The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver.
The heart of the wicked is of little worth. - Yahweh’s precepts are right, rejoicing the heart.
Yahweh’s commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes. - The vine has dried up, and the fig tree withered—
the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree,
even all of the trees of the field are withered;
for joy has withered away from the sons of men. - The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
- “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

- The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
but the mouth of the wicked is perverse.
