Bible Verses about 'Helping the poor'
- Blessed are the poor in spirit,

because he has anointed me

He has sent me to proclaim release to prisoners
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free. - Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render fair judgments, and show kindness and compassion to one another. Do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor. Do not plot evil in your heart against one another.

the Lord heard my plea,
and I was saved from all my troubles. - The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me
because the Lord has anointed me.
He has sent me to announce good news to the oppressed,
to strengthen the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom to those held in captivity
and release to those who have been imprisoned. - He said to them in reply, “Anyone who has two coats must share with the person who has none, and whoever has food must do likewise.”
- The brother who is in modest circumstances should take pride in being raised up. Likewise, the one who is rich should glory in being brought low, for he will disappear like a flower of the field.
- Therefore, whenever you give alms, do not trumpet your generosity, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets in order to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have already received their reward.
- In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. - For everything that is in the world—
the concupiscence of the flesh,
the concupiscence of the eyes,
and the pride of life—
comes not from the Father
but from the world. - But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Your almsgiving must be done in secret. And your Father who sees everything that is done in secret will reward you.
- The law of the Lord is perfect,
affording refreshment to the soul.
The decree of the Lord is worthy of trust,
imparting wisdom to the simple. - The precepts of the Lord are right,
causing the heart to rejoice.
The commands of the Lord are clear,
giving light to the eyes. - The Lord watches over the stranger
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he blocks the way of the wicked. - Do not love the world
or what is in the world.
If anyone does love the world,
the love of the Father is not in him. - And opens the eyes of those who cannot see.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
the Lord loves the righteous. - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and barren, and darkness covered the abyss while the Spirit of God hovered over the waters.
- The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. - He is the head of the body,
that is, the Church.
He is the beginning,
the firstborn from the dead,
so that in every way
he should be supreme. - The vine has withered;
the fig tree droops.
The pomegranate, the palm, and the apple tree—
all the trees of the field have dried up.
And the joy of the people
has also withered away. - The hope of the righteous brings them joy,
but the expectations of the wicked are frustrated. - Wives, be subject to your husbands as you are to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the Church, the body of which he is the Savior.
- The righteous is remembered with blessings,
but the name of the wicked fades away. - The heavens were made by the word of the Lord,
and all their host by the breath of his mouth. - And take the helmet of salvation as well as the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
- The tongue of the just man is like pure silver;
the heart of the wicked is without worth. - I am confident that I will behold the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living. - “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
- The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
- Whoever denies the Son
does not have the Father,
but whoever acknowledges the Son
has the Father also. - Blessings are showered on the head of the righteous,
but sorrow will cover the face of the wicked. - The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the Law.
- Preferable is the little that the righteous possess
than the great wealth of the wicked.
For the power of the wicked will be overcome,
but the Lord protects the righteous. - Jesus replied,
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father
except through me.” - Now this Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
- I am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd
lays down his life for the sheep. - The lips of the righteous utter words of kindness,
but the mouth of the wicked knows only how to pervert. - The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has been unable to overcome it. - I came from the Father
and have come into the world.
Now I am leaving the world
and returning to the Father.
