- Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not treat them harshly.
- Brethren, you were called to freedom. However, make sure that you do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Instead, serve one another in love.
- To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.
- For the Lord takes delight in his people,
and he crowns the humble with salvation. - For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
but to your name give glory
because of your kindness and faithfulness. - The Lord makes poor and makes rich,
he humbles and he also exalts. - Woe to anyone who rises up against his Maker,
or to the pot that is displeased with the potter.
Does the clay say to the one who molds it,
“What are you doing?
Your work makes no sense.” - Therefore, now I, Nebuchadnezzar,
praise and exalt and glorify
the King of heaven.
For all of his works are right,
and all of his ways are just.
Also, he is able to humble
all those who follow the path of pride. - Come forth! Let us bow down to worship him;
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker. - So if I, your Lord and Teacher,
have washed your feet,
you also should wash one another’s feet. - Whenever you fast, do not assume a gloomy expression like the hypocrites who contort their faces so that others may realize that they are fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
- This must not be so with you. Instead, whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your servant.
- For it is written,
“As I live, says the Lord,
every knee shall bow before me,
and every tongue shall give praise to God.” - The brother who is in modest circumstances should take pride in being raised up. Likewise, the one who is rich should glory in being brought low, for he will disappear like a flower of the field.
- To him who in all things is able
through the power
that is at work within us
to accomplish abundantly far more
than all we can ask or imagine,
to him be glory in the Church
and in Christ Jesus
through all generations,
forever and ever. Amen. - What is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him? - Rather, revere Christ as Lord in your hearts.
Always be prepared to offer an explanation to anyone who asks you to justify the hope that is in you. However, do so with gentleness and respect. - Hear my prayer, O Lord;
do not be deaf to my cry
or ignore my weeping.
For I am a wayfarer before you,
a nomad like all my ancestors. - This is how you should pray:
‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.’ - Rejoice with all your heart, O daughter Zion.
Shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem.
See, your king is coming to you,
triumphant and victorious,
humble and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey. - Amen, amen, I say to you,
a servant is not greater than his master,
nor is a messenger greater
than the one who sent him. - Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. - The tax collector, however, stood some distance away and would not even raise his eyes to heaven. Rather, he kept beating his breast as he said, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner.’
