- There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a sabbath to the Lord.
- But when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
- This, then, is how you should pray:
‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.’ - For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him.
- What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
- Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
- For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
- Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?
- For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
- God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill? - Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. - But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
- Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.”
- It was not by their sword that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them victory;
it was your right hand, your arm,
and the light of your face, for you loved them. - And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
- On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.”
- Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
- But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
- Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
- For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
- Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain. - The wealth of the rich is their fortified city;
they imagine it a wall too high to scale. - Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.
- Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.
- Fools give full vent to their rage,
but the wise bring calm in the end.
