- The unfolding of your words gives light;
it gives understanding to the simple. - The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
- Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it. - The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe. - Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
- Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
- Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
- How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
- This is what the Lord says:
“Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.
But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” - For the practices of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.
They adorn it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so it will not totter.
Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field,
their idols cannot speak;
they must be carried
because they cannot walk.
Do not fear them;
they can do no harm
nor can they do any good. - If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
- Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
- When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.
- It is written: ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,
‘every knee will bow before me;
every tongue will acknowledge God.’ - No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
- Know also that wisdom is like honey for you:
If you find it, there is a future hope for you,
and your hope will not be cut off. - The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
- Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
- And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
- For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
- There is a way that appears to be right,
but in the end it leads to death. - Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
- Dishonest money dwindles away,
but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow. - Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.
- There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a sabbath to the Lord.
But when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
