- I understand that man’s greatest happiness is to be glad and do well throughout his life. And when we eat and drink and find satisfaction in all our labors, this is a gift of God.
- He brought you low, allowing you to suffer from hunger. He then fed you with manna, something with which your fathers were not familiar, so that you might come to know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord.
- However, the gift is not like the transgression. For if the transgression of one man led to the death of the many, how much greater was the overflowing effect of the grace of God and the gift of the one man Jesus Christ that has abounded for the many.
- In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served but rather to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- A patient man shows good sense,
but a quick-tempered man displays the height of folly. - But the one who did not know those wishes, and who acted in such a manner as to deserve a beating, will be beaten less severely. Much will be demanded of a person to whom much has been given, and even more will be asked of a person to whom more has been entrusted.
- The Lord, your God, will bless you as he promised you. You will lend to many nations, but borrow from none. You shall rule over many nations, but none shall rule over you.
- The wicked man borrows but neglects to repay,
whereas the righteous man is generous in giving. - All day long the godless man continues to covet,
whereas the righteous man gives unsparingly. - For there is one God,
and there is one mediator between God and man,
Christ Jesus, himself a man. - A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life;
a poor man never has to worry about such threats. - For just as in one body we have many parts, and the parts do not all have the same function, so we, though many, make up one body in Christ, and individually we are all parts of one another.
- And I heard a loud voice proclaim from the throne:
“Behold, God’s dwelling is with mankind;
he will dwell with them.
They will be his people,
and he will be their God,
God-with-them.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes,
and there will no longer be death.
Neither will there be any mourning or crying or pain,
for the old order has passed away.” - Many are the plans in a human mind,
but it is the purpose of the Lord that will prevail. - Plans miscarry when counsel is lacking,
but they succeed when there are many counselors. - Many shall be purified, cleansed, and refined, but the wicked will persist in their evil ways.
- Where many words are spoken, sin is not absent,
but whoever restrains his tongue is prudent. - For since death came into the world through a man, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a man.
- The Lord God then formed a woman out of the rib that he had taken from the man. He brought her before the man.
The man said,
“This one is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh.
She shall be called woman
because she was taken from man.”
This is why a man leaves his father and his mother and joins with a wife, and the two become one flesh. - Or can a man walk on red-hot coals
without scorching his feet? - For the Son of Man has come to seek out and to save what was lost.
- A man may plan his own course,
but the Lord makes his steps secure. - As iron sharpens iron,
so a man sharpens the wits of his neighbor. - I will, thereby, display my greatness and my holiness and make myself known to many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.
- He will never be swayed;
the righteous man will be remembered forever.
