Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal. | Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. |
The ransom of a man's life is his wealth, but a poor man hears no threat. | The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke. |

How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. | Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. |
And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. | And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. |
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! | O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. |
Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. | Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. |
When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be liable for any other public duty. He shall be free at home one year to be happy with his wife whom he has taken. | When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken. |
He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise. | He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. |
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? | For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? |
Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the Lord your God disciplines you. | Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God chasteneth thee. |
But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate. | But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. |
But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” | But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. |
A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends. | A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends. |
For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? | For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? |
The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way. | The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. |
A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back. | A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards. |
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. | It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. |
So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” | So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. |
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. | There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. |
Before destruction a man's heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor. | Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility. |
And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. | And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. |
So, if they say to you, ‘Look, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out. If they say, ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. | Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. |
But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” | And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. |
He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” | And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. |
To make an apt answer is a joy to a man, and a word in season, how good it is! | A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it! |
