Man (3/4)

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.
Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding.Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.
It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling.Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling.
And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.
Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins. Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight—something the law of Moses could never do.
So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”
See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.“Listen,” he said, “we’re going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die. Then they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day he will be raised from the dead.”
It is well with the man who deals generously and lends; who conducts his affairs with justice.Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly.
The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way.The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.
A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.
Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.
With the merciful you show yourself merciful; with the blameless man you show yourself blameless. To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity.
One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. And the Pharisees were saying to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?” And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples began breaking off heads of grain to eat. But the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look, why are they breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?” Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He went into the house of God (during the days when Abiathar was high priest) and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his companions.” Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!”
A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them. And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.
A rich man's wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination. The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
The words of a wise man's mouth win him favor, but the lips of a fool consume him.Wise words bring approval, but fools are destroyed by their own words.
A man's gift makes room for him and brings him before the great.Giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people!
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers.Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.
But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”

For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

earnestly I seek you;

my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land
where there is no water.
